The New GR Urban Market: Not Just a Farmers Market

/Scott Kaplan, The Rapidian

Although the Grand Rapids Urban Market has been much anticipated as it will provide a year-round farmers market, turns out it is much more than a farmers market.

Truthfully, as I heard reports about the new urban market going into Heartside, I thought, “Huh? Fulton Street Farmers Market is going year-round . . . Do we really need another one?” Then I read some of the news articles and realized-oh, it’s more than just a “farmers market.” It sounds sort of like Pike Place in Seattle.

“Plans for the new market include indoor and outdoor stalls for produce vendors as well as space for specialty food retailers like butchers and cheese makers, restaurants, and a tasting room for Michigan wineries and micro-breweries.”

This caught my attention! I LOVE Pike Place. And, this would be the perfect place to take out of town friends so they can sample all the best food and drink that West Michigan has to offer.

They are hoping for a mid-2013 opening. For the full scoop, check out the article Urban market comes to Heartside at The Rapidian.
