Traverse City: A Great Home Base for Wine Tours

Photo from visit.cherryfestival.org

Before we head over to Old Mission Peninsula on our virtual wine tour, let’s stop for a moment in Traverse City. It’s a great home base if you’re planning an extended wine country vacation.

In fact, Traverse City lodging is offering three chances to win a night’s lodging at their properties!

So why is TC such a great place for a home base? For starters, it provides easy access to both Leelanau Peninsula and Old Mission Peninsula. Secondly, there is tons to do right in the city. You can visit Cherry Republic’s tasting room, Left Foot Charley’s (which is an old insane asylum, which is fun), or take a break from all the wine and go shopping.

It’s probably best known for the Cherry Festival. If you don’t like crowds, you might not want to visit July 2-9. But if you don’t mind them, it’s a lot of fun!
