Underground Bakery No Longer Illegal

“The Underground Bakery is now LEGAL… kinda takes some of the fun out of it, but this is definitely a good thing.

To those of you who didn’t know that you were participating in an illegal transaction… um, sorry???”

The Underground Bakery is just one of the small enterprises that will benefit from the recent Cottage Food Law. This means that individuals can make certain types of food at home and sell them directly to others.

Unfortunately, they can’t be sold over the internet or grocery stores. And some farmer’s markets still require a commercial license. There are also labeling requirements. Still, it’s one small step towards food freedom.

Do you know of any cottage food sources in West Michigan? Post them in the comments!

  1. Homemade kombucha, made in my very own kitchen. By the gallon or quart.
Or, if you want to make your own, I also have scoby’s available.
Also, Kefir (plain) by the quart, using low pasteurized whole milk.
